BREAST CANCER TOWN HALL MEETING NOW AVAILABLE ONLINE Even if you couldn’t attend Lynn Sage Breast Cancer Town Hall Meeting, you can still find out about the latest in drug, surgical and radiological approaches to the prevention and treatment of breast cancer. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University held its Sept. 21 Breast Cancer Town Hall Meeting to kick-off October’s National Breast Cancer Awareness month. More than 350 people came to hear a panel of patient advocates and noted breast cancer researchers and physicians discuss “The Promises and Myths of Breast Cancer Research.” “Hearing directly from experts in breast cancer research is empowering,” said one Town Hall Meeting attendee. “ As a breast cancer survivor, I want and need access to the most current infonnation in order to make educated treatment decisions.” Speakers included: Deborah E. Collyar, president of Patient Advocates in Research (PAIR); V. Craig Jordan, ORE, PhD, DSc, director of the Lynn Sage breast cancer research program at the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University; Monica Morrow, MD, breast cancer surgeon and director of the Lynn Sage Comprehensive Breast Program at Northwestern Memorial Hospital (NMH); Judy Perotti, MS, co-founder of the Research Advocacy Network, Inc.; Eric Winer, MD, director of the Breast Oncology Center at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute; and Judy Wolfman, MD, associate director of Breast Imaging for the Lynn Sage Comprehensive Breast Program at NMH. William Gradishar, MD, director of Breast Medical Oncology and associate director of the Lynn Sage Comprehensive Breast Program, served as the moderator for this event. William Gradishar, MD, welcomes guests to the Breast Cancer Town Hall Meeting. “This event was held in conjunction with the Lynn Sage Breast Cancer Symposium, which attracted more than 800 experts in breast cancer from across the world,” said Dr. Gradishar. “The town hall meeting was our chance to convey to the public the most current infonnation about breast cancer treatment and research, which is our real goal - taking information back to our communities to better care for our patients and their families.” The Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University is the only cancer center in Illinois and one of only 40 in the nation to hold the coveted National Cancer lnstitute “comprehesive designation, reflecting the Cancer Center’s dedication to the highest standards of cancer research, patient care, prevention and education.
