BAFFOUR AKOTO DIES AT AGE 98

KUMASI- The legendary Nana Baffour Akoto, chief linguist for three successive Asante Kings has died.

A patriach who had amassed a lot of political history both domestically and internationally, Nana Baffour was reported to have died on the morming of September 3, 2002. Stay tuned next month for a chronicle of this great man and his incredible achievements.

ASANTEMAN HONORS UN CHIEF KOFI ANNAN

KUMASI, GHANA:- Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and Asanteman honored the Secretary General of the United Nations, His Excellency, Mr. Kofi Annan and his wife Nane, during a 10-day visit to Ghana. The event occurred on Saturday, August 17, 2002. Attended by dignitaries such as Ghana’s Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama and his wife, Asantehemaa, Nana Afua Kobi Serwaa Ampem, Asantehemaa, Mr. J. H. Mensah, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Mr. S. K. Boafo, Regional Commissioner, Ashanti Region, His Grace Rt. Rev. Dr. Peter Akwasi Sarpong,, Arch-Bishop, Kumasi Diocese of the Catholic Church among others.
