Ghana Youth Association of Metropolitan Chicago (GYAMC)

Prince Lolonyo HodogBey

A Ghanaian Youth Association in the Chicago area is being organized and we are looking for dynamic Ghanaian Youth to put this together. If you want to be a part of an organization that will address the needs of the youth in Chicagoland and help our colleagues in Ghana then call us.

The Ghana Youth Association of Metropolitan Chicago (GYAMC) is in its infancy as an organization and we need people to put this together. We want this organization to be broad-based. We want it to represent the diverse Ghanaian population in the Chicago area. We want as many young women as young men and we want clearly defined goals and objectives. We want to be focused and directed toward our goals.

The mission is to unite the Ghanaian Youth in the Chicago area, to focus on our needs and encourage one another to achieve our goals and objectives of coming to the US and to help and encourage the youth in Ghana.

What do we envision the organization to be? Just imagine a group that is focused on the plight and success of the Ghanaian youth; a group that will raise money for scholarships to be awarded to college bound Ghanaian students in the Chicago area; a group that will have members and affiliates who can advise on career and life decision-making; imagine one that provides mentorship for members; Think of an organization that win provide tutoring and help with homework for our younger brothers and sisters; a group that will help our high school students to prepare for their ACT/SAT exams; one that will help those or us who are finding it difficult to advance or improve on our education in the U.S. and an organization that can help us improve upon our chosen professions or lines of work. Remember if we can pull resources together as Ghanaian youth, we can help the Ghanaian community at large.

What are we going to do to help our colleagues in Ghana? There are many problems that affect our colleagues in Ghana today and it is impossible to think that we can solve all of them but we can he1p in many ways no matter how small they may be. Do you remember the Accra Sports Stadium disaster? Just imagine you being a part of an organization that sends donations and supplies to help relieve the pa-ins and sufferings of the victims and families of such terrible disasters.

AIDS is affecting our country in such a way that if drastic measures are not taken an entire generation could be annihilated. AIDS is a very preventable disease and by educating the Ghanaian populace about preventive measure~ we can make a lot of difference.

Would you like to be a part of an organization that gives financial support to our national soccer teams and Olympic teams to better prepare and represent us in international competitions? These are some of the objectives that GYAMC will strive to achieve. So if any of the above listed events interests you, then we need you. Your ideas are welcome as well. Parents, please encourage your children to join.

The Ghanaian-styled “get-togethers” including parties and fundraisers will be held and all proceeds will go toward our objectives. Please join us to put this Association on a solid foundation. Remember if you are not part of the solution, then you are part of the problem. Together we can do wonders. For more information, meeting days and times please contact:
