AFRICAN TV DEBUTS IN CHICAGO CHICAGO, IL: When Wole Osilaja came to the United States to attend college, it was not easy to get news about his homeland. Newspapers, magazines, radio and television stations just did not report regularly on the daily news from Africa. The best news from home came infrequently, usually when a relative traveled back and forth. CNN, BBS and the Internet helped, but there still was a huge unsatisfying gap to know the details from back home. Osilaja hopes to remedy this November at 8:30 a.m. on Channel 23 WFBT-TV. He will produce, “AFRICAN WORLD”, a weekly program of news, information and entertainment that will focus on the interests of Africans and Caribbeans living in Chicago and Indiana. “It has been a dream of mine for sometime to create an informational vehicle to communicate local, community and international happenings for the African and the Caribbean,” Osilaja said. “Hopefully, this will showcase our expertise and help to unite and inform our communities.” Osilaja encourages individuals and businesses that needs sponsorship or any type of information to call (847) 319-3614. Channel 23 can be seen on regular TV as -” as some cable systems. WFBT -TV transmits from atop the Sears Tower, the world’s tallest building. It has the potential to reach an audience of 6.4 million people and reaches Waukegan to the North, Elgin and Aurora to the West and Merrillville, Indiana to the South. |
