Introduction:

On September 11, 2001, one of the most vicious attacks on humanity occurred here in our backyard.

Terrorist with unknown intentions, unleashed their unfounded anger on humanity by attacking the United States of America, with the most unthinkable of all weapons, the hijacking of civilian airplanes and using them as weapons of destruction.

As Ghanaians who reside in the Chicago Metropolitan area, we maintain that the Sept 11 tragedy is our tragedy and hope to express our heartfelt and sincere sympathies for the innocent Ghanaians, other Africans, Americans, and people from other parts of the world who met their untimely deaths. We also remain mindful of the families who lost their loved ones at the hands of such ruthless brutality. The Ghanaian community joins people of all nations in condemning the terrorist attacks, and continues to strongly support President Bush in his effort to seek justice and uproot terrorism.

In an attempt to express sorrow for the victims of the horrific events of September 11, the Ghana National Council of Metropolitan Chicago and its affiliates, in collaboration with The Fellowship of Ghanaian Churches of Chicago will host a memorial service on Saturday, November 10, 2001 at 9:00 p.m. The memorial service will be held at the Harris YWCA auditorium on 6200 South Drexel in Chicago, and will be followed by traditional customary rites and a fundraiser.
