WHERE ARE CHICAGOS AFRICAN ENTREPRENEURS? by KWADWO KYEI By popular request, we are rerunning this article that appeared in the Spectrum, February 2000. In New York City, particularly in the boroughs of Brooklyn and the Bronx,
and in neighboring Newark across the bridge, there are many storefronts
that are emblazoned generally with the sign “African Market,” or some
variation of it such as “Tropical Market.” In Atlanta and Boston, Washington
D.C. and Philadelphia, Houston and Los Angeles, Toronto and Montreal,
“African Market” signs greet one at several locations in the African immigrant
neighborhoods. |
