GHANA-U S A CHAMBER OF COMMERCE IN CHICAGO MRS. ELIZABETH AFRIYIE GUSACC, THE FIRST INAGUARATED GHANANIAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE IN USA HISTORY. YES! IN CHICAGO BECAUSE IT IS ONE OF THE VERY IMPORTANT CITIES IN THE WORLD WITH INTELLIGENT BUSINESS MINDED GHANAIANS WHO MAKE THINGS HAPPEN IN BOTH GHANA AND UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. JOIN THE CHAMBER FOR THE GROWTH OF YOUR BUSINESS. Ghana - U S A Chamber of Commerce is a voluntary federation, non-profit and definitely non-partisan organization. The Chamber is originally comprised entirely of nine volunteers and concerned business minded people whose only compensation for their time and efforts is that they truly make a difference in Ghana - USA Community. The following names form the first nine-member Ghana ñ USA Chamber of Commerce Committee: Honorable Robert E. Bennett, Ghana’s Honorary Consular to Chicago Metropolitan area and Midwest, and Attorney at law, Dr. George Ossei Assibey-Mensah, Professor of Public Finance and Budgeting at Indiana University, Mrs. Elizabeth Afriyie, Career/Academic Counselor at East-West University, Mr. John Williams, CPA and Senior Financial Analyst at Computer Science Corporation, Mr. Kwame Ampofo, Businessman and Chief of Chicago Ewe Tribe Association, Mr. Augustine Afriyie, CEO/President of Oakley Construction Company, Mr. Anthony S. Kwateng, CEO/Vice-President of Oakley Construction Company, Mr. Godwin Osei Kuffour, President/CEO of Acirfa Corporation, Mr. Sandy Osei Agyeman, President/CEO of SLID Industry, Mr. Frank Antwi-Barfi, Senior Financial Advisor for Weddell & Reed Financial Services, and a Trustee of Maywood Police Pension Fund. GUSACC has now added the following new names and businesses to the membership list. There is no doubt that, they will also have very good ideas to contribute to the betterment of the organization; Mr. Raymond F. Gunn, Solicitor and Attorney at Law, Mr. Robert A. Willis, Jr., Attorney and Counselor at Law, Mr. Willie James Johnson, Businessman and Chief in Ghana, Mr. William A. Wood, Electrical Engineer at General Electric, Mr. Samuel Walker, Media Supervisor at CBS Corporation, Mr. Senyo K. Yakor, Businessman, Masters Travel &Tour Network Inc., Weldy-Lamont and Associates, Inc, Arthem Group and SCS Telecom. Additional new list of names and businesses will be published in the next edition. The lifeblood of GUSACC is the hard work of the above nine-member committee and the policies and programs are determined by the above names. The Chamber is made up of open-minded people who really want to expand not only the membership, but also the member committee. There is no obligation for a GUSACC member to serve on a committee however, committee activity give members the opportunity for input on issues impacting the business community.
The nine-member committee forms the executives and board members and presently holds the following positions.
Executive members: Dr. George Ossei Assibey-Mensah, president, Mr. Anthony S. Kwateng, treasurer, Mrs. Elizabeth Afriyie, vice president for Business, Mr. John Williams, vice president for Technology and Mr. Kwame Ampofo, vice president for Cultural Affairs. Board members: Mr. Robert E. Bennett, Mr. Augustine Afriyie, Mr. Godwin Osei Kuffour and Mr. Sandy Osei Agyeman
New Board members: Mr. Raymond F. Gunn and Mr. Robert A. Willis Jr.
Although GUSACC is a non-profit organization that will soon represent a broad based coalition of business between Ghana and USA, it is also a business that incurs costs of operations and expenses similar to any other type of business, industry and profession. The expenses of GUSACC are now apportioned among its members, who all share a mutual desire to achieve a better economy for Ghana - USA business community. The funding of the Chamber will eventually come from membership and special events. Ghana -USA Chamber of Commerce unites the efforts of business and professional individuals doing business between Ghana and United States of America to ensure a healthy economic and socio-economic base to benefit businesses between both countries. The Chamber harnesses the potential of the private enterprise system and enables its membership to accomplish collectively what most individuals could not do alone. GUSACC encourages and promotes business and industrial Investment. The Chamber is looking forward to becoming a key resource for business, offering networking and promotional opportunities, along with development and member services to both large and small businesses. As the primary voice, the Chamber will help to shape the lifestyle and business climate in Ghana - USA business community. I owned a business for a number of years. Just like everybody else in a genuine business and pay taxes, I know that the best way to cultivate new business is to meet fellow business representatives face to face; Networking is one the most effective ways of improving business, therefore GUSACC is now here to make sure that you know people who can help your business to grow by establishing better business relationships. I urge you to list your business in our searchable database, which will soon become a service that we will provide exclusively for the Chamber members only. GUSACC on line database will become a valuable resource for referrals and promoting your business. Just like other Chambers of Commerce worldwide, GUSACC will be involved in non-commercial areas, such as education, human relations, and cultural and governmental concerns in the near future.
