LOOP SPARKLES WITH NEW FOOD AND DRUG STORE Newest Jewel-Osco Grand Opening- A Huge Success Chicago:- The 73rd Chicago area Jewel-Osco on Roosevelt and Wabash celebrated its Grand Opening recently. Mayor Richard Daley and Jewel-Osco President, Peter Van Helden cut the ribbon that opened an entire list of opportunities for the South Loop community. Folks were wooed by the light sounds of the talented Ken Cheney Xperience jazz band while they toured the new 52,000 square foot sales floor and 12,000 square foot mezzanine. The new Jewel-Osco combination food and drugstore features expanded perishables including a full selection of ready-to-eat and heat-and-eat foods. The store along with its pharmacy is opened 24 hours a day for seven-days a week. It will bring needed service to community residents and provide convenient shopping to workers and visitors to the area. The new Jewel-Osco will also provide 300 new jobs to the South loop community. Jewel-Osco is a Midwest retailer operating both combination food and drug stores and freestanding drug stores. Of the retailer’s 277 locations, 193 are combination Jewel- Osco stores and 84 are freestanding Osco drug stores. Jewel-Osco is the Midwest Division of Albertson’s, Inc., which is headquartered in Boise, Idaho. Albertson’s in one of the largest food-drug chains in the United States and currently operates over 2,500 stores in 38 states. |
