REGGAE ACTS FOR 20TH MARTINS INTL REGGAE AWARDS WEEKEND, OCHO
RIOS, JAMAICA JAMAICA:- The 20th Annual Martin’s International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA) Weekend, takes place, on May 10-14 2001, at Renaissance Jamaica Grande Resorts, and in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. Martin’s Inter- Culture, Ltd, and the International Reggae and World Music Association present this grand celebration honoring the best in Reggae and World Beat entertainment. Ephraim Martin, President of Martin’s Inter - Culture, Ltd., announced that over 150 nominees were named for Awards and special recognition in 39 categories. Performing live in this weekend celebration are the fantastic Chi-Lites, Gregory Isaacs, George Nooks, Ce ‘Cile, Tony Rebel, Mr. Lex, Half Pint, Everton Blender, Pam Hall, Ken Boothe, Lt. Stitchie, Derrick Harriott, Lord Laro, Lloyd Parks and We the People, Eric Donaldson, Mutabaruka, Mia Rebel, Delly Ranks, Charley Organaire and others. Gemini Disco and Killamanjaro, will entertain a Special Salute to Dancehall Music Friday night at Jack Ruby’s Lawn, Ocho Rios, with salute by and to this year’s nominees: Stone Love, Fire Links, Tony Matterhorn and more. The nominees for the Bob Marley Award for Entertainer of the year are Grammy Award winners for 1999 and 2000 consecutively, Burning Spear, Bennie Man, Buju Banton, chart topper, Shaggy, Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers and Morgan Heritage. These top artists, Capleton, Bling Dawg, CeCile, Mr Lex, George Nooks and Glen Washington, Baby Cham, Tanto Metro & Devante, Kymani Marley and Merciless are nominated in more than one categories ranging from Recording Artist of the year, Best Male & Female Vocalist, Best Song, Best Cross-over Song, Best New Entertainer, Best Male and Female D.J. and Most Outstanding Stage Personality. Also in the mix are Gospel artistes Carlene Davis, Judy Mowatt , Lt. Stitchie, George Banton and Sanchez . Nominated for Best Salsa /Latin-Oriented Entertainer Ricky Martin,Bamboleo, Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony and Luis Miguel. Michael St. George, Mutabaruka, Oku Onoura and Linton Kwaisi Johnson were nominated for Best Poet.Nominations for the Consistent and Promising Entertainer; Best Album Best Music Video; Most popular Sound System; Leading Newspaper/Magazine; and Producer of the year were also revealed at the press conference. Bunny Wailer, Everton Blender, Luciano, Rita Marley, Fr. Richard, HoLung, Mutabaruka and Tony Rebel are nominees for special awards named in honor of Emperor Haile Selassie I, and Marcus Garvey.
