GHANA CHOSEN TO RECEIVE THE 2001 LIBRARY OF INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS FELLOWSHIP CHICAGO:- Ghana has been chosen as the recipient nation for the 2001-2001 Library of International Relations (LIR)/Chicago Consular Corps Fellowship. The scholarship of $10,000 is given annually to provide an international legal scholar with the opportunity to have from one month to one semester at Chicago-Kent College of Law and LIR for research, study and interaction with the law of faculty as well as members of the Consular Corps and the Library’s constituencies. For those who have relatives or loved ones in the legal field back home, this is an opportunity to contact and let them know about this tremendous opportunity to travel and study abroad. Applications for the 2001-2002 LIR Fellowship are now being accepted.
TIME: The length of time of the fellowship may be dependent upon the relationship of the schedules in the home country of the law school, but is shall be no less than one month and no more than one semester (12 weeks). The Consular Corps Ball occurs in October and the Fellowship recipient is expected to attend, if possible.
QUALIFICATIONS: The LIR Fellowship recipient is chosen from a pool of qualified applicants from a country outside the United States. Each year the pool will comprise applicants from a country chosen by two members of the Chicago Consular Corps. The Consul General of the specified country, in this case, Attorney Robert Bennett of Chicago, will solicit applications and provide a pool of no fewer than three applicants from which the final choice will be made. Two members of the law faculty and one representative will make the final choice from the LIR Board of Directors. The choice of recipient will be made on the basis of professional experience in law and a proven record of advanced research. The recipient of the LIR Fellowship is expected to have a defined and advanced research project at a doctoral or a similarly advanced level and will use this experience to enrich his or her own professional experience and research. The applicant may be from academia, government or the professional practice, but should be at this high level of research capability.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The recipient/scholar will undertake to produce a paper which can be published, will make presentations as appropriate to classes at Chicago-Kent College of Law, to the law faculty informally and to some of the LIR constituencies. An executive summary or other appropriate portion of the paper will be published on the LIR website for discussion and comment. If appropriate, the scholar may lead such a web-based discussion during or after residence in Chicago. The final version of the paper will be published on the LIR website. The scholar will also give a lecture at a lunch or dinner hosted by the Chicago Consular Corps. Additionally, the scholar will be invited to attend the Consular Corps Ball as a guest of the LIR and will be recognized at that function as the LIR Fellowship recipient.
HONARARIUM: The LIR provides an honorarium of $10,000 for the recipient of the Fellowship for the necessary financial support of housing and other associated costs. The honorarium will be issued in three disbursements during the course of the recipient’s research at the LIR and Chicago-Kent. TRANSPORTATION:
The Library also provides transportation in the form of one round-trip ticket to and from the scholar’s country. HOUSING: The recipient of the LIR Fellowship is responsible for arranging his or her own housing or accommodations during his or her stay in Chicago. The Consul General of the specified country is encouraged to assist the recipient with making housing arrangements. Resumes and letters of interest should be received by LIR by April 30, 2001. Please send all inquiries to the Library of International Relations, 565 W. Adams, Chicago, IL 60661. Take advantage of this opportunity and let your loved ones know immediately! |
