A+ Certification
Your Passport to A Secure Job

The certification is recognized and backed by major hardware and software vendors, distributors, re-sellers and publication companies worldwide.

It is pertinent to add that the exam is targeted at entry-level computer technician with at least six months on the job experience. And there is no specific requirement. Now, I know you will probably say “but I do not have six months experience.”

This is where the school factor comes in. There are specialized schools designed to give you the necessary skill to take and pass the exams. The approach and objectives of each institution varies. It is now left to you to choose the school that will help you meet your goals in reasonable time. (In this respect, I offer a free consultancy service. I can be reached at 1-773-955-6124.) Leave a message and a convenient meeting would be scheduled to help you out. Remember the purpose of consultancy is to help you map your goals to an appropriate method of study/school. This is absolutely free—free like a bird. Please do not let money be the limiting factor to making you a more productive member of this society.

The chosen school will prepare you for the A+ certification in less than a week to 6 months. On the other hand, some people prefer to study for the exam at home. This takes a lot of discipline and dedication. But it also works.

The A+ examination consists of two parts:

The A+ core exam module and The A+ Specialty module

These examinations cover a broad range of hardware and software technologies and any specific vendor product do not bind it.

For instance, the core module covers the following topics:

Basic knowledge of desktop and portable systems

Basic Networking concepts and Printers

How to properly install, configure, upgrade, troubleshoot and repair microcomputers

Hardware safety and preventive maintenance procedures

On the other hand, the A + specialty module covers the following topics:

DOS: commands, directories hardware and software usage

Windows 95/98 & NT

Disk Management

Software Installation & Configuration: Software troubleshooting Laptop configuration LAN, WAN & Internet Hence, not responsible for it day-to-day maintenance.

A company called Comp TIA administers the certification program through Sylvan Prometric. Having taken the exam, the successful candidates are awarded.
