As we celebrate the legacy and accomplishments of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. this month, let’s not lose sight of the reason why Dr. King had fought, eloquently spoke and led marches. It is not easy to gloss over the purpose of the man and the meaning of his activism with superficial pomp and circumstances. African-American children in particular and some adults especially need to know what Dr. King died fighting to uplift, empower and gain equality for Blacks.
