The next step in this painstaking conjugal process, which usually spans several weeks or more, is the response of the woman’s family or elders whether or nor they accept the drinks offered by the man. If their response is positive and it almost always is they then proceed to state their terms for giving away their daughter in marriage. It is customary for the woman’s family to make a number of demands including a box of textile prints (6 pieces), a sewing machine, gold jewelry, and a specified amount of cash, which will be split up among the woman’s family members.
