US - AFRICA INTERNATIONAL TRADE DEVELOPMENT TRADE CONFERENCE

CHICAGO: - Trade opportunities are rampant in Africa if one has the right connections. The Continental Africa Chamber of Commerce (CACC) hosted the US - Africa International Trade Development Conference and Tourism Expo at the State of Illinois Building May 23 and 24. Sponsored by Western Union, the convention also explored trade and tourism opportunities in Tanzania. Mr. Lawrence Miller of Western Union also participated.

On Hand to describe the procedures were Michael Howard, the Midwest Regional Director who provided the insights to the Export and Import Bank Programs. In addition, Mark Zaineddin of the US department of Commerce lectured on the procedures of assessing multilateral development banks. Mr. Carl le Roux, Consul, South African Consulate General of Chicago explored the trade and investment opportunities in South Africa. During the luncheon held at the Allegro Hotel, Ambassador Joseph K. Amamoo, the keynote speaker, gave a rousing speech when he used his own experiences to relay some of the problems he faced while a minister in Ghana. However, he warned that now is the time to look towards Africa for investment for the future looks bright.

The following day centered on Tanzania. The Hon. Alex Massinda, a minister, presented the keys to trade and Investment opportunities. The excellent team of the Tanzania Tourism Board including, Brigadier Menard F. Haule, Chairman of Equator Bush Ltd. and leader of the delegation, Jubilant S. Were, Managing Director of Equator Bush, Ms. Stella M. Hirji, Director of African Trail Ltd., Mr. Mahad Nur, Managing Director of Paradise Resort, Mohamed Ally also of Paradise Resort and Adnan Maya of the Palm Tree Resort all gave versions of the tourism opportunities in their country.

The convention concluded at the headquarters of the CACC at 1303 S. Michigan when the parties gathered for networking and exchange of ideas and business opportunities. As David Olupitan thanked all that participated, he urged all to pass on the information to prospective business people here in the US seeking to do business in Africa.
